Ingredients Teens Should Avoid (or Be Careful With)

Alcohol: Drying and irritating in high concentrations — check it's not in the first 5 ingredients.

Fragrance/Parfum: Common irritant for sensitive teen skin. Fragrance-free is safer.

Retinol: Powerful but too strong for most teens — most dermatologists recommend waiting until your 20s.

High-% AHA (above 10%): Can be too aggressive for young skin still developing its barrier.

The Holy Grail Ingredients for Teen Skin

Niacinamide (Vitamin B3): Reduces oil, fades acne marks, minimizes pores, brightens skin. Perfect for oily and combo skin. Start at 5-10%.

Centella Asiatica (Cica): Calms inflammation, repairs the skin barrier, speeds up healing. A must for sensitive and breakout-prone skin.

Hyaluronic Acid: Attracts and holds water in the skin. Plumps without adding oil. Works on ALL skin types.

Snail Mucin: Repairs damaged skin, fades scars, deeply hydrates. Sounds weird — works amazingly.

Tea Tree Oil: Antibacterial spot treatment. Use sparingly and diluted.

Rice Water/Extract: Brightens and evens skin tone. Found in many affordable toners and essences.

BHA (Salicylic Acid): Oil-soluble — gets inside pores to break up blackheads. Use 1-2x per week max.

Ceramides: Rebuild the skin barrier. Essential for dry and sensitive skin.

How to Read an Ingredient List

Ingredients are listed highest to lowest concentration

First 5 ingredients = most of what's in the bottle

'Aqua' or 'Water' is usually #1 — that's normal

Look for your key active (e.g. niacinamide) in the top half of the list
